How it is different to other media
As the K1 media moves within the filter, it causes the old dead bacteria on the outside to be displaced. This makes space for new younger heavier feeding bacteria to rapidly colonise. Within the wheel is a protected surface which enables colonies of bacteria to naturally follow their lifecycle, of maturing, dying and then fueling the latter stages of the nitrification cycle. Kaldnes has been designed to provide the best possible habitat for both young and mature beneficial bacterial colonies.
What is meant by 'self cleaning'?
Unlike foam, matting, or other forms of static filtration media, the K1 media is designed to move freely within your filter. The constant chaotic movement of the air from your pump, causes the media to self clean and thus requires no maintenance. This allows the filter to reach optimum effectiveness without the disturbance of periodic cleaning, avoiding unnecessary loss of bacteria within the filter. 50 Litres of K1 media will handle up to 250 grammes of food per day and for K3, 225 grammes of food per day. For retrofit of existing filters, K3 media is the most suitable due to its larger size and ease of control.
The Nexus 210 and 310 are cleverly combined mechanical and biological filters creating an effective, high performance filtration system for all sizes of pond. They continue to revolutionise the way ponds are filtered. The Nexus filtration systems are incredibly easy to clean and maintain.
Hel - X
After extensive research Oase have developed a new and improved version of their Hel-X bio-media especially for use within the ProfiClear Premium modular filter system. The new Hel-X 13 biomedium is so called because it has a 13% increase in the biological settlement surface area (and 40% more settlement area than Kaldness K1 Media).
This means that there is more space for beneficial bacteria to settle and multiply - which translates to improved and faster break down of harmful waste materials and food waste within the Moving Bed Module of the ProfiClear Premium system. 25 Litres of Hel-X 13 can decompose 170g of food waste per day.

Bacteria House Media
The Bacteria House Media is a ceramic material that has been heat treated at 1300°c for 60hrs. This tremendous amount of heat causes the ceramic to break its internal bonds thereby creating an extremely porous structure that has a much greater surface to allow very large bacteria populations to colonise.
Due to the large quantities of tiny holes, mechanical filtration is also achieved. Large organic solids and decaying matter are degraded at a far greater speed than conventional media.

Bacteria Home Media
The special porous ceramic forms the ideal habitat for the bacteria to attach. Not only does this keep your koi healthy, but it also naturally filters dirt and even algae! Dangerous substances and particles in your pond are broken down by the bacteria into less harmful nitrate. Then, anaerobic bacteria lower the nitrate content in the water. This way your pond doesn’t only become cleaner, but it becomes clearer too.
Bacteria Home 72 x 180 is a high-grade filter medium made of porous bars of mineral rock. The rock is baked under very high temperatures. Bacteria Home 72 x 180 is suitable for different types of filter, but is especially effective in a bakki shower.

Alfagrog
This Alfagrog is a porous ceramic pond filter media which is made under controlled conditions in Staffordshire, U.K.
This pond filter media has a very high surface area making it an ideal material on which micro organisms can adhere and boost biological decomposition of pollutants.
Alfagrog is a Volcanic rock and has been used now for several years with a great deal of success .. it is very inert and soon colonises with beneficial bacteria ...
This media is made of a highly porous material that contains many thousands of tiny pockets in which bacteria can thrive making in an ideal material for biological filters
Flocor
These Flocor are a plastic corrugated tube which has an open structure allowing good water circulation in and around the packed media when installed in a multibay biological filter or trickle filter. This ensures the entire surface of the Flocor media can be colonised by nitrifying bacteria.
An additional feature of this Flocor media is its ability to settle suspended particle out of the water column. The random distribution causes the water to change direction as it passes through each piece, this creates laminar flow causing particles to drop out of suspension and settle into the media itself.

Jap Matting
Blue Japanese Matting is one of the more traditional of all the filtration media. Available in 1m x 2m by 38mm thick. Due to its coarse nature it has excellent bio-mass retention and its open texture removes larger particles from the water.

Bio Balls
These Bac Bio Balls is a lightweight and highly effective medium with a large surface area ideal for bacterial growth.
Approximately 1000 Bac Bio Balls will provide biological filtration for at least 1000 gals of water when used alongside additional aeration, or within a trickle tower system.

Filter Brushes
These Filter Brushes are suited for both mechanical and biological filtration. As pond water passes through a series of brushes, its the bristles that filter out suspended solids, while still providing ample surface area where the nitrifying bacteria can colonize and thrive.

Filter Foams
High quality Pond Filter Foam Sets can be cut to any size giving a large economical filter surface and can be used in conjunction with filter wadding for that sparkling water quality.
3-piece foam packs are available to fit virtually most types and sizes of biological box filters.
Normally supplied in three different grades of dimpled foam per set.
Sponges set comprises: 1 x coarse, 1 x medium and 1 x fine available in 11" x 17", 18" x 25" and 21" x 43"

Filter Fleece/Wool
This filter wool is 100% aquatic safe and is un-treated with any chemicals and can be used in in internal filters, external filters and also pond filters
This wool will give you perfect results every time. The wool works on the principal of electrostatic attraction. Meaning that any waste particles algae etc will be drawn to the wool like a magnet.

Filter Media Sacks
Filter Sacks available in 2 size mesh. each sack approx 45cm x 60cm
Perfect for using as media bags in pond filters to make removing media easier for example flocor.
Lithaqua
Kusuri Lithaqua is calcified seaweed high in trace elements and carbonates. It is an ideal filter media due to its porous construction, perfect for raising the KH of soft water, as well as stabilizing pH
